A Small Cinema – Pagoda Centre

At the start of the project we visited the Pagoda with the hope we could speak to some people from the Chinese community about the project and listen to their ideas. We didn’t really know what to expect when we booked it other than the fact that we had a ten minute slot between the Chinese Youth Orchestra finishing and a traditional dance class beginning. On the day we presented we received a really good response from both groups who gave us great suggestions and memories.

The youth orchestra showed great enthusiam for cinema but due to their age, they probably wouldn’t be able to attend in the evning of the screening. So this left us with an unforseen predicament. After the children listened so patiently, we felt is was only right to give them back something in return. So this weekend we returned to the Pagoda Centre to put on a very special Small Cinema specifically for the Chinese Youth Orchestra.

ASC Talk – Liverpool Community College

Yesterday Sam and I visited Liverpool Community College and had the chance to talk to students about A Small Cinema and a little about AND festival. I would like to say thanks to Toc and Barbara for helping organise this on such short notice and making the process so rewarding. As word spread around the other tutors they brought their students into the group and we were thrilled to have such a large audience to speak to.

We explained the process of A Small Cinema to students and we were really pleased with how they responded and the great memories they submitted.

Some more examples of the great selection we received include ‘Trying hard to watch a subtitled film at the Big Screen with my 1 year old son – multitasking!’ by J.Green and ‘The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Hook. I screamed when hook took the children and my mum had to take me home’ by Emily Buckland.
